Course Overview

Duration Two-days, 9 – 5.
The hours can be revised to meet normal client working hours or travel schedules.

Product Managers and Product Owners are responsible for producing business outcomes. They have a team or teams who produce software to realize a business vision and strategy. At every stage of the process, the Product Manager and Product Owner are responsible for deciding what to do next. They take in a wide variety of inputs from stakeholders, customers, marketing, engineering, users and decide how best to proceed. They operate in a world that is dynamic, adjusting to the emerging circumstances. They assess and manage risk. It is a role that is both central and critical for an Agile organization.

This course is intended for Product Managers, Product Owners and the people with whom they collaborate. It is a practical, hands-on class showing techniques for working at the five levels of Agile Planning: Vision, Roadmap, Release, Sprint and Daily.

  • Create and analyze a product business model
  • Identify business assumptions that require testing and learning
  • Design experiments to test assumptions
  • Create and Manage a Product Roadmap
  • Prioritize work for various time horizons
  • Differentiate between output and outcome measurements
  • Work with enterprise and solution architects
  • Identify the distinct user types for a product
  • Use a story map to describe the journey a user takes through a system
  • Create and manage a Product Backlog and Sprint Backlog
  • Plan for a release
  • Understand the value and costs of continuous delivery / deployment
  • Understand and manage investment in technical debt reduction
  • Work with technical enablement stories
  • Write user stories
  • Use scenarios to document acceptance criteria
  • Manage the flow of user stories from initial draft to being ready for development
